This unassuming Youth Centre plays a crucial role in supporting young people and helping to change their lives. In doing so, we are proud to share the facilities and work in partnership with other organisations, including Bonkers Activities and Wychavon Kayak & Canoe Club. This enables us to work together on events, offers a wider range of activities and options to the young people and the community, and all contribute to the building’s running costs.
We also support other charities, including Worcestershire Parents Carers Group, which runs their monthly youth club sessions at the centre. It’s great for them because it is easily accessible and has a real feeling of space, and great for us to help young people in a different way.
But …. owning a building and running youth services costs us around £75,000 each year. With local authority funding cuts and reduced grant funding available, we are generating income in different ways. These include events, gifts in kind, volunteered time & equipment.
In exchange, the young people who use the Centre are increasingly becoming involved in the local community and generating funds to enable their Youth Groups to continue. The younger group prepared a float for the Town Carnival, members of the older group baked and served cakes at the River Festival, others and are engaged with keeping the area around the Centre litter free.
